Expertise in E-commerce Platforms
My career as a full-stack developer is deeply rooted in the e-commerce sector. I have built and scaled a wide range of online retail platforms, from custom-built solutions for major brands to contributing to a massive e-commerce-as-a-service (EaaS) platform used by thousands of businesses. My expertise covers the entire e-commerce ecosystem: designing user-friendly front ends, building robust product and order management back ends, and architecting scalable systems that handle high traffic and complex business logic.
Building Custom & Bespoke Solutions
- At Octal Tech, I am the sole developer on the Planet Gadget project, where I created a comprehensive e-commerce solution for a gadget retailer. My work included architecting the entire system, from the product catalog and inventory management to the user authentication and checkout flow. I leveraged HTML/CSS and JavaScript to build a modern, responsive front end and developed the back end to handle all business logic.
- Also at Octal Tech, I contributed to the e-commerce platform for Mercury Drugs, a major pharmacy chain. My primary focus was on the online shopping experience, where I implemented key front-end features using HTML/CSS and JavaScript to ensure a seamless and intuitive shopping process. This project required a high degree of precision to handle product specifics and secure customer data.
- At Runway Production, I built a complete e-commerce and catalog website for Mrs. Fields using WordPress. This project showcased my ability to use a robust CMS to deliver a polished and fully functional online store. My role involved customizing the platform with bespoke themes and plugins to meet the specific branding and product display needs of a globally recognized brand.
Contributing to Large-Scale E-commerce Platforms
- At US Autoparts, I worked on a high-traffic, large-scale automotive parts e-commerce platform that included brands like jcwhitney and autopartswarehouse. My primary role was to maintain and enhance core functionalities, with a focus on backend system optimization to ensure the platform could handle high transaction volumes.
- My time at Cafe24 was a pivotal experience that exposed me to e-commerce-as-a-service (EaaS) on a massive scale. The platform, similar to Shopify, serves thousands of businesses.
- Architectural Contributions: I was deeply involved in the microservices architecture. I designed and developed independent applications that communicated via APIs, a critical approach for maintaining scalability, resilience, and rapid development cycles.
- Core Development: I developed key applications and tools within the Laravel framework, which were integrated into the Cafe24 platform. This included building internal tools for platform management and developing new features for client-facing applications. I took the lead on architecture design and presentation, ensuring new features were not only functional but also seamlessly integrated with the existing microservices ecosystem.
- My work here demonstrated my ability to not only develop applications but also to understand and contribute to the high-level architectural decisions that support a global, multi-tenant platform.
